THE MUSEUM OF ART AND ARCHAEOLOGY
February 24th, 2015: My college classmates and I had a wonderful experience at the museum of art and archaeology. We visited the Cast Gallery, which is on the first floor of the museum. The museum features a collection of cast of major works. While there, we saw a lot of sculptures that have to do with Greek Mythology and we were able to observe these pieces of art closely.
I learned that looking/viewing art can be a very educational experience for students. For example, my classmates and I were separated into groups and we were all given different exploring tasks. There was an art, history, math, anatomy, and literacy task. My favorite task was the literacy one. The prompt given to us said, "Find a sculpture that speaks to you or is telling a story. Write or record what it is saying." My group members and I had a hard time picking just one sculpture to write about, but eventually we stumbled upon a very interesting sculpture. Then, we wrote a fictional story about the sculpture. It was very fun and writing the story helped us figure out what story the artist was actually trying to tell when he created the sculpture.
This would be a great museum for any teacher to visit with her students! I would incorporate a language arts activity like the one I mentioned above or ask my students to create a script. For older children in particular, I would ask for a script to be created. The script would need to be a conversation between two figures in the art museum and the script would have to include true events and true details from that persons (sculptures) life. We would have a "performance day" later that week in our classroom and each student would perform his/her script.

rELATIONSHIPS Unit reflection
This unit on relationships was perhaps the most meaningful unit thus far. While I enjoyed exploring my identity in unit one, this unit has made me realize that my identity has been formed based on different relationships in my life. This unit allowed me to pay tribute to my deceased mother and provided me an outlet to release emotions that I work so hard to keep in. Our first assignment had to do with printmaking. I chose to make a print of a picture that included my mother and me. I titled it, “The Guardian” because I know that my mom is my guardian angel and is looking down on me from a higher place. My favorite part of this unit was the imovie assignment! My peers and I were asked to turn our “Where I’m From” poems from unit one into movies. I created a video that was a beautiful tribute to family, and love, and loss, and hope. I made my classmates tear up and I hope that it was because they to felt the love and the hope that comes from painful situations. Furthermore, this unit created a link to empathy. One class day was designed just so that we could relax and learn about empathy. In our micro studio assignment, I wrote a letter to myself that was encouraging. Tears were shed through out this whole unit and I realized the importance of finding peace with who you are. I am continuously growing and becoming more of the woman I’ll be for the rest of my life.
Overall, I learned that relationships hold a great importance in life. Be it a romantic relationship, maternal relationship, a friendship, etc.! Taking the time to reflect on some of the most meaningful relationships in my life has been very therapeutic for me! I have learned that I am very strong, hopeful, positive, empathetic, and giving. My sometimes-quiet spirit is built to withstand many of life’s hardships without breaking beyond despair. Moreover, having the opportunity to express these relationships through works on art has allowed me to express my feelings far more accurately then I would have done if I told someone verbatim. IF I WOULD HAVE ever told anyone! You see, the use of these different art forms have given me an opportunity to express my feelings without ever talking in front of the class! I thank my instructor for allowing me visually and artistically represent things that I couldn’t have represented with words. I plan on doing the same for my future students.
